When my children were growing up, I would say to them, “Did you remember to … clean your room? … brush your teeth? … take out the trash?” Why? Children forget. Just as children forget, we often forget the basics of our Christian faith. 

In 2 Peter, the original recipients have forgotten some basic principles of the Christian life, and Peter is keenly aware of this. Peter knows that he will soon die (2 Peter 1:14-15) and so he writes to make sure that his readers are reminded of some very crucial truths (2 Peter 1:12-13). 

We too need these reminders as life's busyness tempts us to forget fundamental aspects of our faith. As you go about your day and, perhaps, find yourself tempted to think that God is not good, that God is not fair, and that life is too hard, do you bring to your remembrance these and other promises?
